grandma mabel’s quilt.

“The true economy of housekeeping is simply the art of gathering up all the fragments, so that nothing be lost…In this point of view, patchwork is good economy.”  ~ Lydia Maria Francis Child, The American Frugal Housewife

In the cleaning out and reorganizing that I’ve been doing, I tackled the garage last week. We are talking a major chore here, my friends! I still have a few more afternoons of work to do out there. Anyway, away back at the back of a shelf was a plastic trash bag. Inside? A quilt top that John’s Grandma Mabel hand-sewed in her later years. I can’t tell you how excited we both were to discover it…nor how intimidated I am by the thought of finishing the quilt!

I’m curious: what is your favorite family heirloom?
